Design Tool

The tool below will assist you in selecting appropriate erosion control products. The following information is only the first step in the careful evaluation of the erosion control materials best suited to the site conditions and needs.

The charts contained on this site can be used in either slope or channel design.
Select the application below applicable to your project. For assistance with selecting the best criteria, select the appropriate "Design Assistant" from this pull-down menu:

Slope

Channel
  Functional Longevity

  Max Shear Stress Vegetated Conditions

  Max Shear Stress Unvegetated Conditions

The products listed in the results segment of this tool represent products submitted by the Directing Members of the Erosion Control Technology Council. We encourage you to contact the participants to get more information or assistance with your project.

Process for listing products on www.ectc.org

ECTC members’ products listed in this section undergo a comprehensive peer review process. The positioning of the product is the manufacturer’s sole responsibility; ECTC makes no claims and assumes no liability for products as positioned by the manufacturer. However, a peer group reviews each submittal to ensure the product has been subjected to the appropriate testing by the manufacturer. The following is a summary of the product review process for listings in the Product Selection & Design section of this site.

1. Members must complete an extensive application and provide test reports for all products they would like listed within each perspective performance category.

2. The ECTC Testing and Specifications Committee meets to review the application and supporting data and then recommends whether or not and where to include the product on the chart. The Committee makes a recommendation.

3. If the Testing and Specifications Committee recommends that the product not be listed within the desired category, a detailed response is sent back to the submitting manufacturer highlighting the grounds for rejection and necessary steps to achieve listing in the desired category.

4. If the Testing and Specifications Committee recommends that the product be included, then a ballot is sent to ECTC Directing Membership.

5. Directing Membership approves the ballot and the product is listed.

Each product must go through this entire review process.

The Erosion Control Technology Council (ECTC) is a non-profit organization. Its mission is to develop performance standards, uniform testing procedures, and guidance on the application and installation of rolled erosion control products ( RECPs ), hydraulic erosion control products (HECPs) and sediment retention fiber rolls (SRFRs). The ECTC promotes the use of erosion control mats and blankets through industry leadership and education in the hope of making a broad contribution to the science of erosion control and environmental preservation.
